Artist Shane Finan Explores The Wildwood
“These tubes… I call them my green tubes of hope.” 🌱
This poetic short film, created by filmmaker Alan Fentiman, captures artist Shane Finan’s reflections while working on the Kielder Wildwood project, a long-term rewilding initiative led by the Northumberland Wildlife Trust.
Set in the remote and beautiful landscape of Kielder Forest, Shane shares his thoughts on tree planting, ecological restoration, and the quiet power of imagining a future woodland that may not be seen for generations. His musings on “tube trees” growing up in green plastic guards become a moving metaphor for patience, change, and the unseen work of regeneration.
The Wildwood project is about more than planting trees—it’s about stewardship, resilience, and the long view. With support from artists, ecologists, and volunteers, Northumberland Wildlife Trust is reintroducing native species to a landscape that will one day become a thriving, self-sustaining temperate rainforest.
